01/Overview

A research repository that turns hours of interviews into evidence anyone can find, quote and trust — with the participant’s voice left intact.

Fieldnote is where a product team’s research lives after the report is sent. Interviews are transcribed, highlighted and tagged; insights link back to the exact moment a participant said something, so no quote is ever taken out of context.

The board view treats insights like evidence on a wall: each card shows how many participants support it, which studies it came from, and what the team decided because of it.

Fieldnote was designed with researchers and for everyone else — product managers, engineers and executives can search findings in plain language without learning a taxonomy.

03/Jury verdict

In the jury’s words.

Fieldnote makes research legible to people who never ran a study, without flattening it. Showing how many participants stand behind every quote is a small idea with enormous integrity.

07/Case study

From problem to proof.

The challenge

Research at most companies dies in slide decks. Teams re-ran studies they already had, and when findings were quoted, the context — who said it, how often, in what situation — was lost.

The approach

Atelier Brun built the repository around evidence strength rather than folders. Every insight carries its provenance, and search works on meaning, so non-researchers can find what they need.

Research

  • Stakeholder interviews

    38 researchers and 41 non-researchers at 12 companies

  • Card sorting

Open and closed sorts to design the tag model, n=210

  • Longitudinal pilot

4 teams for 5 months before launch

Key insights

  1. 01

Non-researchers don’t browse — they search with a question in mind.

  2. 02

A quote without its count (“10 of 14 said…”) is an anecdote, not evidence.

  3. 03

Researchers will tag diligently only if tagging is faster than not tagging.

Outcomes

  • 3.4×

    Research reuse

insights cited in product specs, pilot teams

  • −62%

    Duplicate studies

    year-on-year across 4 pilot teams

  • 71%

    Searches by non-researchers

share of all queries after 3 months

Outcomes are reported by the submitting team and reviewed by the jury.

  • Tag colours paired with icons and labels
  • Respects reduced motion and forced-colours modes

Known gaps

  • Highlight-reel editor timeline is mouse-first; keyboard trimming is in beta
